Adjusting to life without medical appointments

Ann Marie sent an email saying I must blog almost every day – even if nothing happened!  She would be glad to see me writing a poem or a short story.  “Just do something Mom!!!!”

So, last week was the first week in months that the Geezer had no appointments.  We have been cut free!  We seemed directionless!  What to do with all of our time.  No alarms were set.  So we slept in.  Getting up at 10 am does shorten daytime hours!  Of course we are up watching the Daily Show and Colbert  so by the time we do get into bed it is midnight or later.  The other HUGH problem is that by eating breakfast at 11 all meal times are wrong.  The Geezer wants three meals – and he wants dinner at 6 pm.  The Crone tried to experiment with two meals and a light snack (since we seem to be eating too much for the level of our activity).  The Geezer ate the two meals and had about 5 or 6 light snacks.  So that plan is not going to work.  Send any suggestions.  The Geezer thinks we will just have to get up early – like 8 am.  My take on that is that I am becoming sleep deprived.  It must be noted here that when the Geezer needs to use the bathroom at night he must wake me up.  He does this twice during the night (like 3 am and 6:30 am). He falls back to sleep when his head hits the pillow.  It takes me somewhere between 15 to 30 minutes to get to sleep.  I think this is due to the amount of energy I am putting forth to get him out of bed, into the bathroom, out of the bathroom and back into bed!  So the Geezer is awake and now the day begins! 9:41 am.

Holidays are over!

Well the parties are over.  The Christmas tree is down.  Holiday photos are off the wall and Brian heads back to Atlanta in the morning.  I think the holidays were fun but I am ready to get back to “normal” stuff.  I must say that everything was easier to do with Brian around to help.  He helped also with getting the computer to run better and he set up the Wii that Vern got me for Christmas!  He also managed to teach me how to turn on and off the Wii and how to get to the bowling game, and how to download and buy a game (Dr. Mario has returned!!!!) on line.  The only thing we did not do is take a lot of pictures.  That is the project for this week.

January 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8

Well, I have been getting behind in posting daily! This is due to my procrastinating ability.  I can say to myself, oh, I will do this in the afternoon or in the evening or tomorrow morning.  It then comes as a major surprise to me when 4, 5 or 6 days have gone by and nothing has been posted (or packed, or mailed or cleaned).

So, you might wonder what has the Crone been up to on these days. a  A very quick glance at the calendar would indicate that priority has been given to the Geezer’s health issues.

January 3 we saw Dr. Ministry who thought the leg problem could be a pinched nerve in the lower back.  Pain pills were prescribed.

January 4 we were at the Parma Kaiser location for an MRI on the Geezer’s lower back.  There was also a trip back into Strongsville Kaiser for a Rx – lab work done the day before showed a urinary tack infection.

January 5 I abandoned the Geezer and met my friend Shirley for lunch!  We just talked and talked and talked!  I got to hear about her holiday visits from family and she got to hear about Colorado.

January 6 (which was Saturday) the Geezer decided to have us go see the 1:05 p.m. movie, Night at the Museum.  We both enjoyed it.

January 7 I got to church and the rest of the day was spent either resting or discussing what we should be doing!

January 8 I called into Kaiser to leave a message for the Doctor saying we were awaiting the results from the MRI.  He should be calling back by Wednesday.  We also noticed that the Geezer is walking much better. Still using the walker 90% of the time but can walk some steps (like around the kitchen) on his own without looking shaky.  We think this could be the results of (a) the pain medication, (b) something getting better.  He is also sleeping much better. I got to go out in the afternoon to run some errands and get a haircut!  Then we settled in our chairs to watch Ohio State win the football game ….the first few minutes were thrilling.  Nothing more needs to be said.
