Speech Therapy Today

I had thought that Vern’s speech therapy session for today was cancelled for today… I was wrong!  I called them this morning and they did confirm that he had an appointment.  So we left here at 1:10 for a 2 pm appointment.  Had trouble finding a parking spot at the Hospital and arrived at the check in desk with two and a half minutes to spare.  All the way there Vern was not talking to me. (Said he was tired) Then we got into Lori’s office and he talked and joked and did everything she said to do.  So she was very happy with him.  (So am I)  He is speaking louder and in sentences – not just his one word answers!  He is also able to recall some information and plan what he wants to say.  He does keep telling her that he really is a very quiet person.  A person who does not have very much to say!  I think sometime early in 2010 I will include some information about the rare disease Vern has aquired.  Tomorrow we will have grandchildren here – the water in their apartment building is being turned off from 9 am to 3 pm!  We just might go see a movie.

Anniversary: 41 years

Alan sent us the directions for posting photos and so I have read them but I am not sure I can actually do this.  Vern was at the computer last night and he just might be getting interested in photo stuff so I will give him a day or two to read the directions.  Nick took Vern’s camera along to lunch on our anniversary (September 2).  We went to a very nice place in Golden,  The Briarwood Inn.  Nick seemed to think it would appeal to the “older” crowd.  Well, that is what we are and I liked the place.  Vern seemed to like it also.  If I can get the photos posted, you will all be able to see how nice the place is.    The Briarwood Inn also has “Afternoon Tea” on Friday and Saturday.  I sure hope someone comes to visit me on those days as Vern is not interested in Tea!  Nick left on Sept. 3 and it is quiet here.  Kai was sick for a few days so we just cuddled.  He was much improved by Saturday!

Nick’s visit

Nick flew in from Portland on Saturday.  Dave went and picked him up  -5:15 PM arrival.  We have been busy visiting and cooking since he arrived.  Nick seems to be on a quest:  he is searching through Vern’s negative files and then scanning some of the negatives.  This search has really gotten Vern interested in what Nick is doing and he has spent time with Nick at the computer!  Both Dave and Nick seem to be enjoying one of Vern’s “balance exercises” so now when either walks into the room they pick up the beach ball and lob it at Vern.  Sometimes he manages to hit it back!  This exercises is supposed to be done while Vern is standing but the boys are tossing the ball at him when he is sitting or standing!!!!

January 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8

Well, I have been getting behind in posting daily! This is due to my procrastinating ability.  I can say to myself, oh, I will do this in the afternoon or in the evening or tomorrow morning.  It then comes as a major surprise to me when 4, 5 or 6 days have gone by and nothing has been posted (or packed, or mailed or cleaned).

So, you might wonder what has the Crone been up to on these days. a  A very quick glance at the calendar would indicate that priority has been given to the Geezer’s health issues.

January 3 we saw Dr. Ministry who thought the leg problem could be a pinched nerve in the lower back.  Pain pills were prescribed.

January 4 we were at the Parma Kaiser location for an MRI on the Geezer’s lower back.  There was also a trip back into Strongsville Kaiser for a Rx – lab work done the day before showed a urinary tack infection.

January 5 I abandoned the Geezer and met my friend Shirley for lunch!  We just talked and talked and talked!  I got to hear about her holiday visits from family and she got to hear about Colorado.

January 6 (which was Saturday) the Geezer decided to have us go see the 1:05 p.m. movie, Night at the Museum.  We both enjoyed it.

January 7 I got to church and the rest of the day was spent either resting or discussing what we should be doing!

January 8 I called into Kaiser to leave a message for the Doctor saying we were awaiting the results from the MRI.  He should be calling back by Wednesday.  We also noticed that the Geezer is walking much better. Still using the walker 90% of the time but can walk some steps (like around the kitchen) on his own without looking shaky.  We think this could be the results of (a) the pain medication, (b) something getting better.  He is also sleeping much better. I got to go out in the afternoon to run some errands and get a haircut!  Then we settled in our chairs to watch Ohio State win the football game ….the first few minutes were thrilling.  Nothing more needs to be said.
